Family Ministry - Parents are the number one faith influencer in their children's lives!

(I know that sounds exciting to some, while scary to others.  But trust me, you know more than you think you know, and you're already doing more than you think.)

Our goal is to equip and encourage you!   So keep a eye here for nifty links and ideas for families to do to grow in faith together!  If you ever have any questions, please let us know!

Family Faith Former Corner -

This time of year there are lots of signs.  Flashing signs at school zones that remind us that school is back in session.  There are signs that the seasons are changing with migrating birds, color changing and falling leaves, cooler temperatures, rain.  There are signs everywhere.  We also have signs of our faith.  An empty CROSS reminds us that Jesus conquered death and offers us the gift of eternal life.  An ICHTHUS or FISH was a sign that early Christians would use to identify each other.  One person would draw half of the fish and if the other person was Christian, they knew to draw the other half.  A DOVE is a sign of peace, hope, and the  Holy Spirit.  What other signs can you think of?

As a family think of some signs that are important to you and mean something about your faith journey.  Maybe an old Bible reminds you of faith passed on by grandparents.   Or maybe holding hands means its time to pray.  Pay attention to signs and look for new meaning this season.

Children, Youth & Vulnerable Adult Safety

As part of the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church we covenant together to follow best practices to ensure the safety of any and all children, youth, and vulnerable adults in our care.  Initially this involves a three step process with bi-annual retraining and accountability for every event and program.

The initial three steps are:

1.)   Visit, click on get started, and create a profile.  They will run a background and reference check.

2.)   Complete the “Safe Gatherings Training Course”.  Follow the instructions on your screen or emailed to you.

3.)   Register online and participate in “TRUSTed con Confianza Training Course”

visit for a list of those.  It is offered at various locations throughout our conference, or you may participate in one online.

Church should be a safe place.  These are some basic steps we take to help ensure the safety of the most vulnerable among us.
